The Wild Ones Permanent Installation at the Chicago Children's Museum. Materials: Maple Hardwood, Padouk Hardwood, Various Found Woods, Handmade Steel & Aluminum Mechanisms, Leather, Various Paints & Stains. When children sit down on the bench, mechanisms inside the sculpture housing mechanically strike the suspended bass marimba keys, producing a warm, resonate bass sound every time they sit or bounce. There are three separate bouncing devices. The sound emanates from the slit in the gongs that aligns with the children's spines as well as coming out of each of the animals mouths.
